ABOUT BRIAN A QUAN
Brian A. Quan (b. 1996) is a contemporary choral composer, vocalist, lyricist, and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles. A first-generation American of Honduran and Chinese descent, Brian was raised in Palmdale, California, and has performed in a wide range of musical settings—from big bands and orchestras to chamber choirs, a cappella groups, and neo-soul bands. A devoted lover of the choral arts, he credits choral music as one of the genres that has truly changed his life. He’s especially drawn to the textures of Impressionist music and the harmony of jazz—two worlds he feels pair beautifully with choral textures and the expressive depth of traditional choral singing.

As a composer, Brian explores themes of identity, faith, belonging, healing, and giving voice to the unvoiced. HIs choral works have been performed at ACDA conferences, festivals, and productions throughout Los Angeles. He was awarded First Place in the 2025 Rachel Moore Choral Project Composition Contest, and his piece Dreams Carved in Quiet Stars was premiered by The Choral Project under the direction of Daniel Hughes. His music has been commissioned by The Sunday Night Singers, directed by Michael McCullough—including Sin Una Despedida (premiered at the 2024 Western ACDA Conference) and Charge With the Bayonet—as well as Desert Youth Voices, directed by Keren Moreno, who premiered We Are One. In December 2025, Brian’s SATB work I’d Follow You, written for choir and piano, was named a Top 10 finalist in the Houston Choral Society Composition Competition.

Upcoming premieres in Spring 2026 include a collaborative new work titled Anand Ke Rang Chhaye Re, a choral ode to Indian music, to be premiered by both The Sunday Night Singers and the Palmdale High School Chamber Singers. The piece is co-written with Brian’s wife, Melodie, and longtime collaborator David Deedwania. Additionally, the Garden Grove High School Chamber Singers will premiere Brian’s new original work Las Olas later that spring.

As a performer, he performs and writes for several ensembles across Southern California, including The Sunday Night Singers (where he serves as tenor section leader), The Bounce Tribe, and The Cara Cara Jazz Collective, and performs regularly as a working vocalist in the LA area. Brian has appeared on international stages including the Grand Prix of Nations, International Eisteddfod, and Montana International Choral Festival, and has performed regularly live on PBS. He has sung with professional and collegiate ensembles such as The Northridge Singers, Vox Femina, LA Bach Chorale, The New Days, and We The Hummings, and continues to do session and studio vocal work in the LA area.

Outside of choral music, Brian is a passionate advocate for the arts and the co-founder of Vibrations 4 The Soul—a sound collective and creative platform with a devoted following of nearly half a million. Under this banner, he has produced live showcases across Southern California, performed at major events for Hulu, PTTOW Next Fest, and landed a residency at Dream Hollywood. In 2023, he released Dreaming Inside of a Piano, a full-length abstract piano album.

Currently serving as Vocal Jazz Director at Garden Grove High School, Brian is also on a mission to revive the choral scene in LA by producing immersive, artistically bold choral productions. Whether composing for voices, performing with his neo-soul band The Bounce Tribe, or producing collaborative events, Brian is passionate about the arts that drives him to create music and events that connects, liberates, and uplifts.
